LONG SYNOPSIS

Manal is a single mother of four from Damascus who has lived in Lebanon for eight years. To make ends meet, she operates a hair salon out of her cramped one-bedroom apartment in Bourj Hammoud, Beirut's Armenian quarter. The neighbourhood is home to Lebanon’s first wave of refugees — Armenians who escaped genocide in the early 1900s — and is now a melting pot of Syrians, Palestinians, Egyptians and other migrant and refugee communities.

Both of Manal's sons have been out of school for several years and work to help support the family. Her youngest son, Jamil, is an up-and-coming rap artist who goes by the name Jico El-Irani and who has amassed a modest but dedicated following on social media. Her eldest daughter, Riham, was recently attending university in Damascus but had to abandon her studies because of the war. Manal’s youngest daughter, Reem, is deaf and left school because of the lack of resources for refugee students with special needs. To pass the time, Reem helps her mother in the salon. This interactive web-doc tells the story of a family searching for the possibility of a brighter future while together faci
ng the challenges of life in limbo .
